Though it is a little more than a minute in a three-hour long film, it’s the most impactful and crucial scene in Michael Mann’s masterpiece Heat (1995) for me. Perhaps one of the most subtle scenes in cinema history. I shit you not. I watched the film twice last week. I may have seen it when it first came out in theaters, but can’t be sure. I tend to have an uncanny visual memory and have none for this film. Truth be told, I never took these actors that seriously, or presumed this film or Mann in general was worth hullabaloo. And that’s on me. Heat is a great film. Truly. Stop and watch/rewatch it for free in full high-quality on YouTube tonight.
